The Central Figure

"The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John." – Revelation 1:1

When you think about the book of Revelation, what comes to mind? Prophecies? Signs and symbols? While those elements are part of this remarkable book, Revelation is so much more. It’s not primarily a book about the future or mysterious imagery; it’s a book about Jesus. From the very first verse, we see that Revelation is, above all, the unveiling of Jesus Christ.

On every page, the Holy Spirit pulls back the curtain and reveals Jesus in all His glory. This is more than a collection of signs and symbols. It’s an intentional unveiling of the central figure of all history—Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords. He’s not just the one giving the vision to John. He’s the very focus of the vision.

Jesus is the revealer. Through an angel, He delivered this vision to John, using signs and symbols to convey crucial truths. These aren’t random images or cryptic messages. They’re intentional revelations designed to teach us who Jesus is and what He will do. But Jesus is also the revealed. In this book, we see Him as the victorious Lamb, the righteous Judge, and the triumphant King. He’s unveiled in His majesty and power, giving us a glimpse of His eternal reign.

As you read Revelation, let the focus remain on Him. It’s easy to get caught up in trying to decipher every detail or timeline, but the heart of this book is Jesus. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. Every prophecy points to Him, and every symbol reveals something about His character, His mission, and His victory.

Revelation is an invitation to see Jesus more clearly, to understand His sovereignty, and to worship Him more fully. As you journey through its pages, let your heart be drawn to the central figure—Jesus Christ, the one who reveals and is revealed.
