A Step Up
"For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." – Matthew 16:25
When God calls you to sacrifice something, it’s easy to see it as a loss. You might feel like He’s taking something from you, withholding something good, or making your life harder. But what if the very thing He’s asking you to give up is actually what’s holding you back? What if the sacrifice isn’t a step down but a step up into something better?
The problem is, we don’t always know what’s best for us. We think we do. We set goals, chase dreams, and hold on to things that feel right in the moment. But God, in His wisdom, sees what we cannot. He knows what will truly satisfy us, what will lead to real joy, and what will shape us into the person He created us to be.
Jesus made it clear in Matthew 16:25 that if you cling too tightly to your own way, your own plans, and your own desires, you’ll actually lose what you’re trying to keep. But when you surrender, when you trust Him enough to let go, you’ll find the life you were always meant to have.
Think about it. Every sacrifice God calls you to make has a purpose. When He asks you to let go of a relationship, it’s because He has something better. When He asks you to walk away from a habit, it’s because it’s keeping you from growth. When He asks you to give, serve, or step out in faith, it’s because He’s leading you into something greater.
God never asks you to sacrifice just for the sake of suffering. He’s not trying to strip you of joy, He’s trying to lead you into abundance. The things you hold onto may feel good now, but what’s on the other side of obedience is far greater than anything you could build for yourself.
Sacrifice isn’t a setback. See it as a setup. A setup for a stronger faith. A setup for deeper peace. A setup for the life you were made for. Because when you surrender to God’s plan, you’re not losing; you’re stepping into the best version of yourself, the version God intended all along.
