Strength in Weakness

"But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me." – 2 Corinthians 12:9

One of the biggest reasons people hesitate to follow God’s calling is because they feel inadequate. You might know exactly what your weaknesses are. Maybe you are not a strong speaker, but God is calling you to lead. Maybe you struggle with fear, but God is asking you to step out in faith. Maybe you feel unqualified, but God is opening a door you never expected. The thought that you are not capable enough, talented enough, or strong enough can make you want to run in the other direction.

But what if your weakness is actually the point?

God does not call the qualified, He qualifies the called. He works best in weakness because it leaves no room for pride, no space for self-reliance, and no confusion about where the power is coming from. When God uses you despite your weaknesses, it elevates Him instead of you. It makes it clear that you could not have done it on your own.

Look at Moses. He told God he was not a good speaker, yet God used him to deliver an entire nation. Gideon was terrified and full of doubt, yet God used him to lead an army to victory. Paul had a thorn in his flesh, yet he embraced it because it revealed God’s power in his life.

2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds us that God’s power is made perfect in weakness. That means the very thing you see as a limitation is actually an opportunity for God to show up. If you could do it all on your own, you would not need Him. But when you step out in faith despite your weaknesses, God’s strength becomes visible. His grace carries you. His power sustains you.

So do not let your weaknesses keep you from answering God’s call. If He is asking you to be courageous, it is because He plans to equip you. If He is leading you into something bigger than yourself, it is because He wants to be the one who gets the glory. You do not have to be strong enough, smart enough, or talented enough. You just have to be willing. Because when God works through your weakness, the world does not see what you can do; they see what He can do.
