Living Like You Are Free
"For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery." - Galatians 5:1
If the truth sets you free, why do so many people still live like captives? Why do worry, sin, and fear still seem to have a grip on so many lives? Maybe you have asked yourself the same question. If Jesus has set you free, why does it sometimes feel like you are still carrying chains?
The truth of God is not just something to believe. It is something to live in. When you worry about tomorrow, God’s truth tells you not to be anxious but to bring everything to Him in prayer. When you feel crushed by sin, His truth says you do not have to live as a prisoner anymore because Jesus has already paid the price. When you fear death, His truth says that in Christ, you have eternal life. The freedom is real, but you have to walk in it.
Some people struggle with this because they have been in bondage for so long that it feels normal. That is why Paul warns in Galatians 5:1 not to submit again to a yoke of slavery. The door to the prison has been opened, but some still choose to sit inside. Jesus did not just give you a new identity. He called you to live in it.
In John 8, Jesus told the people that the truth would set them free, but if you keep reading, you see how they responded. They resisted. They argued that they had never been slaves, even though their history told a different story. That is what deception does. It convinces you that you are fine where you are, that you do not need to change, and that you can handle things on your own. But the truth is, without Jesus, every person is a captive.
So here is the real question. Are you living like you are free? God has already defined your freedom. He has already broken the chains. You do not have to live weighed down anymore. The only thing left to do is step out and walk in the truth that has been given to you.
