What Is Holding You Up?

"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock." - Matthew 7:24

When a building goes up, the part you see is not the part that holds everything together. The real strength is underground. Before walls can rise, before glass can be installed, before anything impressive can take shape, the foundation has to be set. And not just the foundation, the footers.

If you have never thought about footers before, you are not alone. They are massive concrete pillars buried deep underground, designed to bear the weight of the entire structure. Without them, a foundation will crack over time. No matter how solid it seems in the beginning, it will not last if it is not supported by something even stronger beneath it.

Now think about your life. You may say you have a strong foundation. You may know that truth is the foundation of your freedom. But what is supporting that foundation? What are the footers keeping you steady?

Jesus talked about this in Matthew 7 when He said that a wise man builds his house on the rock, not the sand. The difference was not in the house itself, but in what it was standing on. A foundation on shifting ground will eventually fail, no matter how strong it looks at first. But a foundation built on solid rock will stand firm no matter what storms come.

The same is true in your faith. Knowing the truth is one thing. Living in it is another. The strongest foundation means nothing if it is not supported by something deeper. Are you actively pursuing God? Are you anchored in His Word? Are you surrounding yourself with the right people, staying connected in prayer, and allowing the Holy Spirit to strengthen you? These are the footers that keep your foundation from crumbling when life gets hard.

Take a moment and ask yourself: Is your foundation built to last? It is not just about knowing the truth. It is about being rooted in it. A strong foundation is only as secure as what is holding it up.
