The Search for Love
"The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love." - 1 John 4:8
When you hear the word love, what comes to mind? Maybe it is a relationship, a family memory, or even a scene from a movie. Every person has an idea of what love is and a belief about how to find it.
Some search for it through dating apps, hoping the right match will finally bring them happiness. Others pour themselves into self-improvement, thinking if they look better, work harder, or achieve more, they will be worthy of love. Some seek it in friendships, careers, or even the approval of strangers on social media. No matter who you are, one thing is true. Every person is searching for love.
But here is what most people miss. Love is not something you chase. Love is something God defines because He is the source of it. The devil has worked since the beginning of time to distort what love really is. He has convinced people that love is a feeling, that it is something you earn, or that it can be found apart from God. But none of that is true.
First John 4:8 says that God is love. That means apart from Him, love does not exist. If you do not know God, you cannot fully know love. You might experience glimpses of it in relationships, but without Him, you will never truly understand it. You will keep searching, keep striving, and keep feeling like something is missing. That is because real love is not found in a person, an achievement, or a moment. Real love is found in a relationship with the One who created it.
If you have been chasing love in all the wrong places, stop running. The love you are searching for is not something you need to find. It is something God has already offered. When you know Him, you do not just experience love. You experience the love that never fails, never fades, and never lets go.
