Love is More Than a Feeling
"Love never ends." - 1 Corinthians 13:8
The world will tell you that love is a feeling. It is the butterflies in your stomach, the rush of excitement, the spark that makes everything seem perfect. Movies, songs, and social media all paint love as something you fall into, something that just happens when the emotions are strong enough. But if love is only a feeling, what happens when those feelings fade?
That is exactly why so many relationships fall apart. People believe that when the excitement is gone, the love must be gone too. Marriages end because the spark is not there anymore. Friendships dissolve because they do not feel the same as they used to. Even faith can grow cold when people rely on emotions to keep them close to God.
But real love is not based on feelings. Feelings are temporary. They change with circumstances, moods, and seasons of life. If love was only an emotion, it would never be steady. It would be here today and gone tomorrow.
God defines love differently. First Corinthians 13:8 says, "Love never ends." That means love is a choice, not just a feeling. Love is something you commit to, even when emotions fluctuate. That is how God loves you. His love is not based on how He feels in the moment. It is unchanging, steady, and eternal. Even when you fail, even when you drift, even when you do not deserve it, His love remains.
That is the kind of love you are called to. A love that does not quit when emotions fade. A love that endures through difficult seasons. A love that stays, even when the feelings are not as strong as they once were.
So do not fall for the world’s version of love. Do not chase a love that disappears when things get hard. The strongest love is not the one that burns the brightest for a moment. It is the one that stays even when the emotions come and go. That is real love. That is God’s love. And that is the love you are called to live out.
