Agape Love
"For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16
The greatest kind of love is not based on feelings, attraction, or even family ties. The greatest love is agape, the love that God has for you. It is selfless, unwavering, and never dependent on what you do or do not do. It is love that gives without expecting anything in return.
John 3:16 describes this love perfectly. God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son. That kind of love is not conditional. It is not earned. It is not based on how good you are or how much you deserve it. God did not wait for you to be perfect before He loved you. He loved you first. He loved you in your sin. He loved you before you even knew Him.
This is what makes agape love different from any other kind of love. It is not based on emotions. It is not temporary. It does not fade when you fail. God’s love is constant, patient, and unshakable. Nothing you do can make Him love you more, and nothing you do can make Him love you less.
The world’s version of love is often based on conditions. If you meet the right expectations, you will be loved. If you fall short, that love might disappear. But agape love does not work that way. It is the love that sent Jesus to the cross, not because you earned it, but because He chose to love you no matter what.
That same love is what you are called to live out. To love others selflessly. To love without conditions. To reflect the love that God has poured out on you.
If you ever wonder whether you are truly loved, look at the cross. That is agape love in action. That is the love God has for you, and it is the love that will never fail.
