Building or Breaking?

"Every wise woman builds her house, but a foolish one tears it down with her own hands." – Proverbs 14:1

What kind of impact are you leaving on the people closest to you? Whether you realize it or not, your influence is either building them up or tearing them down. Proverbs 14:1 paints a clear picture. “Every wise woman builds her house, but a foolish one tears it down with her own hands.”

When Solomon talks about a woman building her house, he’s not referring to brick and mortar. He’s talking about family. He’s talking about influence. The kind of influence that can either strengthen or destroy the people around you.

And it all comes down to wisdom. When Solomon uses words like “wise” and “foolish,” he’s not just describing smart versus ignorant. He’s talking about those who follow God and those who reject Him. A woman who chooses to follow God builds her house. Her influence is constructive, loving, and rooted in God’s truth. But a woman who rejects God tears down her house. Her influence is destructive, careless, and ultimately leaves a trail of brokenness.

The Bible calls wives and mothers managers of their households. Proverbs 31:27 says, “She watches over the activities of her household and is never idle.” God designed you to be intentional about how you lead, how you serve, and how you pour into those around you. And how you manage your family now will have a lasting impact for generations to come.

You have a choice. You can be a homemaker or a home-breaker. You can choose to lead with godly wisdom or with a lack of it. And here’s the hard truth; ignoring God’s wisdom doesn’t just leave you struggling. It leaves those you love struggling, too.

The good news is that God has given you everything you need to build your house well. He’s given you His Word. He’s given you His Spirit. And He’s given you the ability to impact the people around you with love, truth, and grace.
