The Willing Worker

"She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from far away." – Proverbs 31:14

Have you ever stopped to appreciate the relentless effort that goes into providing for others? Proverbs 31 paints a vivid picture of a woman who works tirelessly to meet the needs of her family and even those beyond her home.

In verse 14, we read, “She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from far away.” Back in those days, this wasn’t an easy task. It required traveling long distances, gathering supplies, and bringing them back home. And there was no modern convenience like Amazon Prime or grocery delivery. It was hard work. And it had to be done with dedication and consistency.

The message is clear. A godly woman is a willing worker. Someone who isn’t afraid of effort. Someone who doesn’t view hard work as beneath her. She understands that her effort isn’t just about chores. It’s about building something that lasts.

And it’s not just about working hard for her family. Verse 15 says, “She rises while it is still night and provides food for her household and portions for her female servants.” What does that mean? It means her kindness and compassion go beyond just her own. She’s looking out for the well-being of others, even those who may not be directly connected to her family.

Her diligence comes from a place of love, wisdom, and devotion. She’s not seeking praise. She’s simply fulfilling the calling God has placed on her life to serve and provide. And here’s the key. She does it with willing hands.

Too many people treat hard work like a burden. But when your work is fueled by love and faithfulness, it becomes something more. It becomes worship. It becomes a testimony of God’s goodness flowing through you.

The world says, “Do only what benefits you.” But God’s Word shows a better way. A willingness to work, not just for yourself, but for the people God has placed in your life. A heart that chooses to serve, even when it’s difficult.

Ask yourself today, what’s driving your effort? Is it selfish ambition or a heart that wants to honor God by serving others? Because when you work with willing hands, your effort becomes a blessing to everyone around you. And God sees every moment of it. Keep building. Keep serving. Keep loving.
