Honoring Mothers

"Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her." – Proverbs 31:28

We’ve all been there, right? That moment of panic when you realize you forgot a special day. The desperate scramble to make up for it. The grand gestures and over-the-top plans just to cover up the fact that you completely missed it. And the punchline of that story? All that effort for the most extravagant Groundhog Day celebration ever.

But today isn’t Groundhog Day. It’s Mother’s Day. And hopefully, you haven’t forgotten. Because this day is about honoring some of the most important people God ever placed in our lives, our mothers. The women who have given us life, love, and more than a few embarrassing childhood memories.

Here’s the truth. We should be honoring our mothers more than just one day a year. Proverbs 31:28 says, “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” It’s a picture of appreciation, of gratitude, of taking the time to recognize the impact that a mother has on her family.

And if we’re being honest, a lot of us are guilty of not doing that nearly enough. We get busy. We take things for granted. We forget to say thank you. We forget to recognize the quiet sacrifices and the endless love that keeps pouring out, even when it’s not acknowledged.

But today is different. Today is a chance to truly honor the women who have shaped us, loved us, and stood by us through all the ups and downs. Whether it’s your mom, your wife, your grandmother, or any woman who has stepped into a motherly role in your life, take the time to show her what she means to you.

Don’t let it just be about flowers or dinner reservations. Let it be about genuine appreciation. Let it be about speaking words of love and gratitude. And most importantly, let it be about recognizing the God-given strength and beauty within her.

Mothers are a gift from God. And today, we have the privilege of celebrating them. Make sure they know just how much they are loved.
