Everything in the Name of Christ

"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." - Colossians 3:17

We’ve spent a lot of time talking about who you are in Christ. That’s your being. When Jesus saves you, He changes your very identity. The old you is gone. The new you is raised with Christ, and you live with a new perspective and a new peace. That’s not something you can do on your own. Only Jesus can transform your being.

But here’s the thing. When Jesus changes your being, He also changes your doing. Your actions, words, and lifestyle all start to look different when you truly belong to Him. And if nothing about your doing has changed, you have to ask yourself if your being was ever truly transformed.

In Ezekiel, God says, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” That’s a promise of transformation. It’s not just a change of mind or behavior. It’s a complete change of heart. And when your heart is changed, your actions will follow.

How does God change your doing? He does it through His Word. The verse says, “Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you.” That means God’s Word shouldn’t just be something you occasionally hear. It should be something you soak in, something you allow to fill your heart and mind until it starts to change how you live.

When you truly belong to Jesus, your life will start to reflect that. It’s not about being perfect, but it’s about letting Him shape your actions, your speech, and your attitude. When Jesus is the center of your being, He should also be the motivation behind your doing.
