Jesus and Sin

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." - Romans 3:23

If you’ve ever been around church, you’ve probably heard a lot of messages about Jesus and sin. That’s because those two topics are at the core of what the Bible is all about. And whether you like it or not, sin is something that applies to every single one of us. The Bible says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” That means nobody gets a pass. We’re all guilty.

But the problem we face today is that the world keeps trying to redefine what sin really is. The culture we live in will tell you that some things are no longer sins, even when God’s Word clearly says they are. For example, the world says that having sex outside of marriage is just part of the dating process. People say getting drunk isn’t that big of a deal because “everybody drinks.” And then there are the so-called little sins, things like gossip, greed, lust, or telling a white lie.

The culture’s message is clear. If it feels good, do it. And if everyone else is doing it, it must be okay. But here’s the problem. Every sin is a big deal to God. There’s no such thing as a little sin in His eyes. It all falls short of His standard, and it all separates us from Him.

If you’re tempted to downplay certain sins because the world says they’re not a big deal, then you’re not seeing sin from God’s perspective. Sin isn’t just a bad habit or a mistake. It’s rebellion against a holy God.

But the good news is that while sin is a big deal, Jesus is greater. His sacrifice on the cross was the only thing that could bridge the gap between us and God. You can’t save yourself, and you can’t clean yourself up. But Jesus can.

So, where do you stand today? Are you trying to redefine what sin is to fit your own preferences, or are you willing to see sin the way God sees it? Jesus and sin are the two things you can’t ignore. One condemns you, but the other saves you. Let God’s perspective on sin be the one that shapes your life.
