The Faithful and True King
"Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True, and with justice he judges and makes war." – Revelation 19:11
A few years ago, I stood on the Mount of Olives overlooking Jerusalem, realizing I was standing on the very ground where Jesus once stood with His disciples before He ascended into heaven. As I read Acts 1 and pictured the moment Jesus rose into the clouds, what struck me was the promise the angels gave that day: “This same Jesus… will come in the same way that you have seen him going into heaven.”
Revelation 19 picks up the fulfillment of that promise. John’s vision reveals heaven opening and Jesus returning on a white horse, called “Faithful and True.”
Here’s what I want you to notice: the names John highlights—Faithful and True—tell us something crucial about Jesus’ character. He is faithful, meaning He keeps every promise He makes. Not some. Not most. All. 2 Corinthians 1:20 reminds us, “For every one of God’s promises is ‘Yes’ in him.”
But He is also true. Jesus doesn’t just speak truth, He is truth. He’s the definition of what is real, right, and unchanging. In a world where we’re surrounded by shifting opinions, half-truths, and broken promises, we have a Savior who never wavers.
And here’s the shift many people miss: when Jesus returns, He will no longer come as the humble lamb we read about in the Gospels. He will come as the mighty lion of Judah. He will come to set things right, to bring justice, and to rule with power and righteousness.
The lesson today isn’t just to look forward to His coming, but to trust His character right now. Jesus’ faithfulness and truth are not only future promises, they are present anchors. Whatever you are facing, you can rely on Him. When the world feels unstable, when people disappoint you, when life feels overwhelming, remember Jesus is faithful and true, both now and forever.
