The Burden That Births Vision
"Let your ear be attentive and your eyes open, to hear the prayer of your servant that I now pray before you day and night for the people of Israel your servants" - Nehemiah 1:6
Have you ever heard something that just stopped you in your tracks? A story or a situation that shook you so deeply, you couldn’t shake it even if you tried? That’s where we find Nehemiah. He wasn’t in Jerusalem. He wasn’t the one suffering. He had a good job. He lived in a palace. But the moment he heard what was happening back home, something broke inside him.
Nehemiah wasn’t a pastor or a prophet. He was a cupbearer. A servant. But when God puts a burden on your heart, your title does not matter. It does not matter where you live or what your role is. When God wants to stir your spirit, He will. And the question is not whether He is speaking. The question is whether your heart is soft enough to feel it.
Some people hear about brokenness and scroll on. Others hear about brokenness and fall on their knees. That was Nehemiah. He heard about a wall that was broken down and people living in disgrace. And he responded with weeping and fasting and prayer.
Let me ask you today. What breaks your heart? What is the thing that God keeps bringing to your mind when you try to sleep or zone out? What is the thing that should not be the way it is? That right there might just be where your vision begins.
Because real vision always starts with a burden. Not just a good idea. Not just a dream. But a problem that wrecks you. Something that moves you enough to pray and fast and do something about it.
So today, ask God to break your heart for what breaks His. Then pay attention to what stirs in your spirit. That just might be the first step toward stepping into His vision for your life.
