Provision in the Most Unexpected Ways
"But so that we may not cause offense, go to the sea and cast a hook and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel. Take that and give it to them for me and for yourself." - Matthew 17:27
Have you ever felt the pressure of a financial need with no idea where the provision would come from? That is where Peter found himself in Matthew 17. He was asked to pay the temple tax, but he didn’t have the money. And rather than panic or come up with a plan on his own, he brought the problem to Jesus.
Jesus could have handed Peter a coin on the spot. He could have miraculously made the money appear in Peter’s pocket. But He didn’t. Instead, He told Peter to go fishing.
Can you imagine how strange that must have sounded? Go throw a hook in the water, and in the mouth of the first fish you catch, you’ll find the money you need.
And yet, that is exactly what happened. Peter obeyed, and God provided. Right on time, in a way no one could have predicted.
Maybe you are facing a need right now. And like Peter, you have no idea how it’s going to work out. You’ve looked at the numbers. You’ve done all you can. But you’re still coming up short.
This story is your reminder that God is not limited to human logic. He can use anything to meet your needs. A job opportunity. A conversation. A door you did not see coming. Even a fish.
The point is not the fish. The point is that when you follow Jesus, you can trust Him to provide. Your job is to be obedient with the next step. His job is to provide what you need when you need it.
You may not know how. You may not know when. But if you’re walking with Jesus, He will take care of you.
