The Safety That Comes with Obedience
"Our God will fight for us" - Nehemiah 4:20
There will always be risk when you follow God. That’s the part no one talks about. We love the idea of blessing and favor and open doors, but we often forget that the path to purpose usually walks straight through danger and opposition.
Nehemiah knew that firsthand. As he stepped into the vision God gave him, he also stepped into a fight. The moment he began rebuilding the wall, enemies showed up. They mocked him, threatened him, and tried to stop the work at every turn. But Nehemiah wasn’t afraid. He knew something most of us forget. He was not fighting alone.
In the face of real danger, Nehemiah declared a bold truth to his people. He said, “Our God will fight for us.” And that’s exactly what God did. He provided safety when it looked unsafe. He gave peace in the middle of pressure. He surrounded Nehemiah with protection that made no sense apart from divine help.
You might be in a similar place. Maybe God is leading you into something that feels risky. Maybe you sense a calling, but fear is holding you back. You’re worried about what people will say. You’re worried about what you’ll lose. You’re worried about failing. That’s real. But here’s the truth: if God is the one sending you, then God is the one protecting you.
God does not call you out just to leave you exposed. He goes before you, walks beside you, and stands behind you. That doesn’t mean you’ll never face conflict. It doesn’t mean life will feel safe. But it does mean that your security isn’t dependent on your surroundings. It’s rooted in your Savior.
If you know God has called you to it, then move forward with confidence. Trust Him to guard your steps, to block every attack you don’t see coming, and to fight every battle you’re not equipped to fight. The safest place you can ever be is in the center of God’s will. Let Him handle the enemies. You just keep building the wall.
