Thoughts That Shape the Future
"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." - Romans 12:2
There’s a saying that has stuck with me ever since I heard it. Inky Johnson, a former Tennessee football player turned motivational speaker, said, “Watch your thoughts, they become your words. Watch your words, they become your actions. Watch your actions, they produce your future.” There’s wisdom packed in every line of that.
When you think about it, most of the battles we fight start in the mind. Before something ever becomes a behavior, it begins as a thought. If the enemy can shape the way you think, he can steer the direction you live. But God, in His Word, offers us another way.
Romans 12:2 reminds us that transformation happens not just when we change what we do, but when we allow God to renew how we think. It says, “Be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” God does not call you to conform to the patterns of the world. He calls you to let Him reshape your mind so you can live according to His will.
That means you have a choice. You can either dwell on thoughts that drag you down, or you can choose to fill your mind with truth. Paul gave us a great filter in Philippians 4:8 when he said to think about what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and praiseworthy. If your thoughts do not line up with that list, they do not deserve space in your head.
The thoughts you hold today are shaping the person you become tomorrow. So ask yourself, what have I been thinking about lately? What direction are those thoughts taking me?
Let God renew your mind. Surrender your thought life to Him. Because when your thoughts are rooted in truth, your future is anchored in hope.
