Step 3: Refuse to Worry About Anything

"Don’t worry about anything" - Philippians 4:6

Let’s be honest. Worry is something most of us carry way too often. You might not say you’re a worrier out loud, but if we looked at your thoughts during the day, or especially at night when things get quiet, we’d probably find some anxiety hanging around. It’s subtle, but it pulls on us. That’s why the word Paul uses here matters so much.

When Scripture says “don’t worry,” the word used for “worry” actually means to be pulled apart. It paints a picture of a mind being torn in two directions. One part of you wants to trust God. The other part is convinced everything is falling apart. One side says God is faithful. The other says maybe He forgot. That divided mindset? That’s what steals our peace.

And Paul is not just throwing out a casual suggestion here. This is a command rooted in love. God is saying, I don’t want your thoughts to pull you in opposite directions anymore. I want you whole. I want your heart steady and your mind clear.

Jesus talked about this in Matthew 6. He said not to worry about your life, what you’ll eat or drink or wear. Why? Because your Father knows what you need. And if He takes care of the birds and the flowers, how much more will He take care of you? Worry says, I’m not sure I can trust God with this. Faith says, God has never failed me before, and He won’t start now.

The reason worry is such a threat to your thought life is because it’s an insult to the character of God. It questions His power and His goodness. And if you’re holding on to worry today, here’s your invitation: let it go. Give Him that concern. Hand Him that anxiety. He already knows what’s weighing you down, and He’s strong enough to carry it for you.

You want a healthy thought life? It starts by refusing to let worry divide your mind. Trust the One who has already proven Himself faithful. He can be trusted with every part of your story.
