Remember Whose You Are

“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” - John 1:12

If you want to build a spiritually healthy life, the first place to start is not with what you do, but with who you are. And even deeper than that, who you belong to.

In Colossians 3, Paul gives us a clear reminder of our identity. He says, “Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved…” You catch that? You’ve been chosen by God. You are set apart. You are deeply loved. Not because of your track record. Not because you earned it. But because of grace.

Identity always determines action. If you think you’re just another person trying to get by in this world, then that’s how you’ll live. You’ll chase what everyone else is chasing. You’ll live for approval, acceptance, and achievement. But when you realize you’re a child of God, everything changes.

When I was younger, every time I left the house, my dad would say the same thing: “Be careful, and remember who you belong to.” And I knew what he meant. He wasn’t just talking about our last name or family reputation. He was reminding me that I belonged to the Lord. That I was representing more than just myself.

That same principle applies to your spiritual life today. God has given you a name. He has placed His Spirit in you. He has called you His own. And remembering that truth is the first step to strengthening your spiritual leg.

You might feel spiritually weak right now. Maybe you’ve been going through the motions or putting all your energy into your physical and mental health, but neglecting your soul. Start here. Remember that you are chosen, holy, and loved. Not because of what you’ve done, but because of what Jesus has done for you.

And when that truth takes root in your heart, you won’t just know who you are, you’ll live like it.
