Shine On Purpose

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” - Matthew 5:16

One of the most important tests for a follower of Jesus is simple. Are other people seeing your life and giving glory to God? Not “Are they impressed with you?” Not “Do they like you?” Not “Do they think you’re a good person?” Are they seeing your good works and being drawn to your Father in heaven?

This is what it means to be deployed as a believer. You weren’t saved to sit still. You were saved to shine. You were set apart for a reason. That reason is so others can encounter Jesus through the way you live your life.

I think about it like this: there are two great days in the life of a Christian. First, the day you are born again. Second, the day you realize why you were born again. When your life starts making other people curious about Jesus, that’s when you know you’re walking in your purpose. That’s what it means to live bright and salty.

But the problem is, too many believers stay tucked away, never stepping into the reason they were saved in the first place. We go to church, maybe serve here and there, but outside of that, we keep a low profile. We say things like, “I just want to be humble” or “I’m not the outgoing type.” And while humility is a good thing, Jesus never told us to hide. In fact, He said the exact opposite.

Let’s be real. The world is watching. Whether you realize it or not, people around you are making conclusions about God based on how you live. What you say. How you act. How you respond when things go wrong. And according to Jesus, those everyday moments when lived with purpose and conviction, are the very things that help others glorify God.

If you’ve been rescued by Jesus, don’t keep it quiet. Live it out loud. Let your life speak before your mouth ever does. Be the kind of person that makes it easier for someone else to believe in God. Not because you’re perfect, but because the light in you points clearly to the One who is. Shine on purpose. And never forget why you were lit in the first place.
