Ain’t That the Truth
"Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth." – John 17:17
There is no shortage of opinions in our world today. Everywhere you look, people are sharing what they think, how they feel, and why their view is the right one. But with so many competing voices, how do you know what’s actually true?
That’s the question a young college student asked her professor on the first day of class. When the professor boldly claimed that no one has the truth and that everyone’s opinions are equal, the student pushed back, asking the obvious question. If nobody has the truth, then why even bother listening to anyone?
That moment speaks to something deeper in all of us. We are hardwired for truth. God made us to seek it, to know it, and to be changed by it. But in a culture that has traded truth for tolerance and clarity for confusion, many people walk away thinking truth is just a matter of personal opinion. Jesus makes it clear that’s not the case. He says in John 17, “Your word is truth.” Not a truth, not one of many truths. The truth.
God’s Word doesn’t change with trends or emotions. It’s not swayed by politics, popularity, or public opinion. It stands forever. And because it’s true, it has authority. That means we don’t just read it for inspiration or scan it for a few good quotes. We build our lives on it. We hold our thoughts up to it. And when our opinions or feelings don’t align with it, we don’t expect the Bible to change; we change.
So if you’re looking for clarity in a confusing world, don’t just listen to the loudest voices. Open the Word of God and let it shape your thinking. Let it correct you, guide you, and lead you. And when someone says, “No one really knows the truth,” you can say with confidence, “Ain’t that the truth.”
