Root Work Before Breakthrough

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing with gratitude.” - Colossians 2:6-7

When something feels slow, it can be tempting to call it stuck. That is the challenge with spiritual growth. It rarely shows up in flashy ways. We want visible progress, fast outcomes, and instant clarity. But God's greatest work often happens beneath the surface, where no one is watching and no recognition is given.

Your root work matters more than you realize. Deep roots are not built in public. They are formed through quiet obedience. Through consistent prayer. Through choosing to trust God on days when you feel nothing and see nothing. That kind of faith may not feel impressive, but it is what holds you steady when the storms hit.

What most people call delay, God calls preparation. What seems invisible may actually be foundational. Just because you are not producing visible fruit right now does not mean nothing is happening. Maybe God is building strength beneath the surface that will sustain you when the pressure increases. Maybe He is forming endurance in you before He ever puts you on display.

But this is where many give up. They uproot themselves too soon. They abandon the process when it feels too quiet. They walk away from the Word when it stops giving them feelings. They chase excitement instead of remaining planted. But Scripture says those who are rooted and built up in Christ will be established. That is not a one-time experience, but a daily pursuit.

So here is the challenge: keep planting your life in the truth of God's Word. Keep watering your soul with prayer and worship. Keep pulling weeds of sin and distraction. Stay faithful in the hidden places where nobody claps and no one posts about it. Because your root system will determine your fruit season.

And when that fruit does come, it will not be shallow. It will not be short-lived. It will be strong, and it will last. Because it was built on Christ.
