A Church That Goes Beyond

"Give to the one who asks you, and don’t turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you." – Matthew 5:42

When Jesus talked about generosity, He didn’t put a cap on it. He didn’t say to give only when it’s convenient or comfortable. He simply said to give. And what He’s pointing to is more than a one-time act. It’s a mindset. It’s a way of life rooted in the belief that everything we have comes from Him and is meant to be used for His glory.

The people who follow Jesus should never be content with doing the least. That goes for individuals, families, and entire church communities. The extra mile is not a special occasion; it’s the standard. If you’re only doing what’s required, you’re not walking like Jesus. He didn’t love us halfway. He went all the way to the cross.

That same mindset is what fuels a generous church. When we give faithfully, when we sacrifice to help others, when we support the mission with our time, our finances, and our gifts, we are doing exactly what Jesus called us to do. You may not always see the person you’re helping. You might not get a thank you. But your giving can still make an eternal impact.

That’s why the church exists. Not to build comfort, but to meet needs. And not just physical needs, but spiritual ones too. We don’t give because it feels good. We give because God gave first. And when a church embraces that mission, when its people live with hands open and hearts willing, that’s when the world sees something different.

Are you going the extra mile? Not just in your giving, but in your love, in your patience, in your willingness to serve when no one is watching? The second mile is not crowded. Most people stop at the minimum. But the second mile is where Jesus is found, and it is there that your life starts to carry eternal weight.
