The Reward Only God Can Give

"But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you" - Matthew 6:3-4

One of the greatest truths Jesus reveals in Matthew 6 is that God notices what others overlook. He sees what happens in private, and He weighs not only our actions but also our intentions. This means that when you serve someone quietly, when you bless someone without recognition, or when you give simply because God put it on your heart, not a single moment of it goes unseen by Him.

People’s applause is fleeting, but God’s reward is lasting. The world offers quick acknowledgment, but the Father offers eternal treasure. Jesus is teaching that unseen obedience is never wasted. In fact, it is the very kind of obedience that draws the deepest favor from Heaven. When your motive is to please God and not people, your giving becomes worship.

This verse is also an invitation to examine our motives. Why do we do what we do? Is it to be praised, or is it to please the Lord? Jesus makes it clear that the reward depends on the reason. Public generosity for public approval receives a public reward. Private generosity for God’s glory receives a heavenly reward.

Here’s the beauty of it. The Father who sees in secret not only notices what you do, but He also promises to reward you Himself. You may never be thanked on earth. You may never be recognized for your sacrifice. But Heaven has already recorded it. And the One who matters most has already prepared a reward.

Keep giving quietly. Keep serving faithfully. Keep obeying when no one is watching. Because your Father is watching. And His reward is worth more than any spotlight this world can offer.
