Peace in the Middle of the Storm
“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.” – John 14:27
Life has a way of reminding us that peace is fragile. One moment things seem steady, and the next, everything changes. The phone call you never expected. The bill you didn’t see coming. The diagnosis that shakes your confidence. It doesn’t take much for peace to disappear when it’s built on calm circumstances. But the peace Jesus offers is different.
When Jesus spoke these words to His disciples, they were anxious and uncertain. He had just told them that He would soon be leaving them, and their hearts were heavy with fear. In that moment, He promised something greater than understanding. He promised peace. Not the kind the world offers, the kind that depends on everything going right, but a peace that remains even when everything feels wrong.
The world defines peace as the absence of trouble. Jesus defines it as the presence of Himself. The peace He gives doesn’t remove the storm, but it steadies us within it. It doesn’t silence the chaos around us, but it calms the chaos inside us. When everything around you feels out of control, His presence whispers that you are not alone and that He is still in charge.
Jesus said: “My peace I give to you.” This isn’t borrowed peace or temporary relief. It’s personal, perfect, and present. It’s the peace that flows from His character. Steady, trustworthy, and unchanging. When you belong to Him, that peace becomes yours.
You may not be able to control the wind or stop the waves, but you can choose where your peace comes from. The peace of the world fades when the pressure rises, but the peace of Jesus stands firm through every storm.
If your heart feels heavy today, remember that peace is not found when life finally slows down. It’s found when you look up and rest in the One who never changes. The same Jesus who spoke peace over the storm still speaks it over your heart today.
