When God Seems Silent

“In the same region, shepherds were staying out in the fields and keeping watch at night over their flock. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord.’” – Luke 2:8-11

There are seasons in life when it feels like God is quiet. You pray, but nothing seems to change. You ask for clarity, but heaven feels closed. Silence can be one of the hardest things to face, especially when you’re desperate for answers. You start to wonder if God has forgotten you or if He’s even listening.

That was the reality for the people of Israel before Jesus was born. For hundreds of years, God had spoken through prophets, revealing His truth and reminding His people of His promises. But then, the voice of prophecy went silent. No new word came. No fresh revelation. For four centuries, it seemed as though heaven had gone quiet.

Yet, even in the silence, God was working. While His people were waiting, He was preparing the perfect time for His promise to be fulfilled. The world was being set up for the arrival of the Savior. The roads were being built, the language was being unified, and hearts were being made ready. When the silence finally broke, it broke with a cry from a manger and a message from angels declaring, “A Savior has been born for you.”

What looked like inactivity was actually preparation. God was never absent. He was never uninterested. He was simply arranging every detail to bring His plan to life.

Maybe right now you feel like heaven is quiet. You’ve been praying, but the waiting seems endless. If that’s where you are, understand that silence is not the same as absence. God’s quiet seasons often mean He’s preparing something greater than you can see.

Even when you cannot hear Him, He is still speaking through His Word, His Spirit, and His faithfulness. The same God who broke the silence in Bethlehem still keeps His promises today. Trust His timing. The silence may be setting the stage for your miracle.

Very true that we have to "wait on the Lord". Often He has something much different and better than we have asked. Our prayers must include the words and belief and trust in "not my will, but may yours be done." Thank you once again, Pastor Jordan.
