Belonging to the Father
“The Spirit himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God’s children, and if children, also heirs—heirs of God and coheirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.” – Romans 8:16-17
There is a deep desire inside every human heart to belong. We long to be known, accepted, and loved. The good news of the gospel is that when we place our faith in Jesus, that longing is finally fulfilled. We are no longer wandering or uncertain about who we are. We belong to God, fully and forever.
Paul reminds us that the Holy Spirit living within us confirms this truth. The Spirit testifies with our spirit that we are children of God. That means your relationship with Him is not based on feelings or performance. It is based on fact. The moment you trusted Christ, God placed His Spirit within you as evidence of that relationship. You became His child, His heir, and His treasure.
Being a child of God changes everything. You are not defined by what you do, but by whose you are. You are part of a royal family with an eternal inheritance that cannot fade or be taken away. Because you are in Christ, everything that belongs to Him now belongs to you. You have His peace, His presence, and His promise of eternal life.
Once you are His, there is no going back. You cannot be unadopted or unloved. God does not change His mind about His children. Nothing in this world, not even your failures or weaknesses, can separate you from His love. Your life carries His signature, the mark of the Holy Spirit, proving that you are His forever.
The world will try to define you by your success, your mistakes, or your status. But none of those things can change what is already true. You are a child of God, sealed by His Spirit and secure in His grace.
Live with that confidence today. You are not forgotten, overlooked, or alone. You belong to the Father who chose you, redeemed you, and calls you His own. Let that truth give you peace and strength in every season. You are His, and nothing can ever change that.
