From Death to Life

“And you were dead in your trespasses and sins.” – Ephesians 2:1

The Bible does not describe our condition before knowing Christ as weak or misguided. It says we were dead. That truth is hard to hear, but it is essential to understand the depth of what God has done for us. We were not bad people who needed a little improvement. We were spiritually lifeless, completely unable to save ourselves, and in desperate need of a Savior.

When Paul wrote these words to the church in Ephesus, he was reminding believers of what they had been rescued from. Sin did not just make them guilty. It made them spiritually dead. Every human being is born with that same condition. Our sin separates us from God, cutting us off from the source of true life. We may look alive on the outside, but without Christ, our souls are disconnected from Him who gives life.

The beauty of the gospel is that God did not leave us in that state. Through Jesus, He brought us from death to life. Salvation is not behavior modification. It’s resurrection. It is the moment when God breathes His Spirit into a lifeless heart and gives it new purpose, new power, and new direction. Only God can do that.

Religion can make you more disciplined. Self-help can make you more focused. But only Jesus can make you alive. When you put your faith in Him, He forgives your sin, fills you with His Spirit, and gives you eternal life. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead now lives in you.

If you are in Christ, you are not who you used to be. The old life is gone, and the new life has begun. You have been raised from the death of sin into the life of grace. Let that truth remind you that your past no longer defines you. Your story is now one of resurrection and transformation.

You were dead, but God made you alive. That is the miracle of salvation and the heartbeat of the Christian life. Live today with gratitude and joy, knowing that the same God who brought you from death to life will continue to breathe new life into every part of your journey.
