When Mercy Found Me
“He saved us, not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit.” – Titus 3:5
Mercy is one of the most beautiful words in Scripture. It means that God chooses compassion when we deserve condemnation. It means He moves toward us when He could have turned away. Mercy is the story of every believer, because none of us found God first. He found us.
Paul reminds us that salvation is not the result of anything good we have done. We did not earn it, deserve it, or achieve it. God saved us according to His mercy. That means He stepped into our story while we were still broken. He met us in our sin, our shame, and our struggle, and He chose to love us anyway. He did not wait for us to clean ourselves up or prove we were worthy. He reached into the mess of our lives and pulled us out by His grace.
Mercy always moves first. Before we prayed the first prayer or took the first step toward God, His heart was already moving toward us. Like a loving Father searching for a lost child, He came running. His mercy is not cautious or distant. It is personal and active. It pursues, it rescues, and it restores.
When mercy finds you, everything changes. Guilt gives way to grace. Shame is replaced by peace. Death is swallowed up by life. The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead begins to renew your heart and transform your life from the inside out. That is what it means to be washed and made new by the mercy of God.
If you have been trying to earn God’s approval, stop striving and start resting. You do not have to chase what has already found you. Mercy came looking for you, and it still does. God’s love reached you before you ever reached for Him, and His mercy will keep you even when you fall short.
Remember where mercy met you and let gratitude fill your heart. You are not where you are because of your goodness. You are here because mercy found you and loved you back to life.
