Hollow on the Inside

“Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elements of the world, rather than Christ.” – Colossians 2:8

It is possible to look like you are doing great and still be falling apart on the inside. You show up. You know the language. You stay involved. From the outside, everything looks solid. Inside, something feels thin, dry, or disconnected. That gap is more common than people admit.

Spiritual activity can hide spiritual emptiness for a long time. Routines keep moving. Habits stay intact. But when truth is replaced with shortcuts, the core slowly weakens. A life that is not rooted in truth can look healthy while quietly decaying beneath the surface.

Truth is what gives faith weight. Without it, beliefs become opinions, and conviction turns into preference. You start leaning on what sounds good instead of what is true. Over time, pressure exposes the problem. When hardship hits or doubt creeps in, there is nothing sturdy to hold onto.

Paul warned believers about this very thing. He was not talking to people who rejected Jesus. He was talking to people who were drifting from Him without realizing it. Ideas sounded wise. Traditions felt spiritual. Philosophy appeared deep. Christ slowly became optional instead of central. That shift always leads to hollowness.

Looking strong is not the same as being rooted. Real health begins below the surface. Truth anchors the soul when feelings fluctuate. Truth steadies the heart when life feels uncertain. Truth keeps faith from collapsing under pressure. Without it, everything depends on mood, motivation, or circumstances.

God is not impressed by appearances. He cares about roots. He desires depth more than display. A quiet life grounded in Christ is stronger than a loud life built on substitutes.

If something feels empty right now, do not ignore it. That hollow space is an invitation, not a failure. Return to truth. Let Christ be central again. Healthy faith is not about how it looks. It is about what it is rooted in.
