Jesus Is the Priority, Not the Accessory

“For no one can lay any foundation other than what has been laid down. That foundation is Jesus Christ.” - 1 Corinthians 3:11

It is easy to build a life where Jesus is included but not central. You believe in Him, respect Him, and call on Him when things get hard. At the same time, decisions are driven by comfort, success, or control. Faith becomes something you add to life instead of the foundation on which life is built. That setup can work for a while, especially when everything feels stable. Problems show up when pressure hits.

Treating Jesus like an accessory creates instability because accessories are optional. They come off when they no longer match or feel useful. Foundations are different. Everything rests on them. When Christ is the foundation, faith shapes priorities, responses, and direction. When He is an add-on, faith competes with everything else. The result is a divided heart that feels pulled in too many directions.

You can usually tell where Jesus stands by how you respond when life does not go as planned. If anxiety takes over, control tightens, and trust disappears, something else may be holding first place. That does not mean you do not love Jesus. It means something else has been asked to carry weight it was never meant to carry. Only Christ can hold a life steady.

Making Jesus the priority does not complicate life. It simplifies it. Decisions become clearer. Peace grows deeper. Direction feels steadier. When He is first, everything else finds its proper place. Careers matter, relationships matter, goals matter, but none of them carry the load of identity or security anymore.

If faith has felt unstable or stretched thin, consider what it has been resting on. Jesus was never meant to be added to an already built life. He is meant to be the base on which everything else stands. When He is the foundation, life may still shake, but it will not collapse.
