Called By Name

"But now, this is what the Lord says—he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: 'Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.'" - Isaiah 43:1

There's something powerful about hearing your name called by someone who loves you. It's personal, intimate, and affirming. God doesn't just know about you; He knows you by name, and He calls you His own.

God begins by establishing His authority: He is the one who created and formed Israel. But then He moves from His power to His personal relationship with them. He has redeemed them, called them by name, and claimed them as His own.

The phrase "summoned you by name" is incredibly personal. In ancient times, knowing someone's name meant having a relationship with them. God isn't dealing with you as part of a crowd; He's dealing with you as an individual. He knows your name, your story, your struggles, and your dreams.

"You are mine" is a declaration of ownership and belonging. You're not an orphan in this world; you belong to God. You're not wandering aimlessly; you have a place in His family. This belonging gives you security, purpose, and identity that can't be shaken by circumstances.

Spend time in prayer today, listening for God to speak your name. Remember that He knows you personally and calls you His own. When you feel forgotten or overlooked by others, remind yourself that the God of the universe knows your name and claims you as His beloved child.

Prayer:
Lord God, thank You for knowing me by name and calling me Your own. In a world where I can feel anonymous and forgotten, You remind me that I am personally known and loved by You. Help me to find my security in being Yours rather than in human recognition or approval. Thank You for redeeming me and making me part of Your family. In Jesus' name, Amen.
