Trusting The Guide When The Trail Gets Dark
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” - Proverbs 3:5–6
Faith is a lot like walking through the woods in the dark.
We live in a world that tells us to plan everything. We want to know the destination, the exact route we will take, and what the weather will be like when we get there. We crave control, especially when it comes to our families, our careers, and our future. But God rarely gives us the entire map. Instead, He asks us to trust Him with the very next step.
But faith is not just a journey; it is an adventure. And real faith moves before the miracle. Real faith acts before the outcome. Real faith obeys before understanding everything.
Notice that the command in Proverbs is not to figure it all out. The command is simply to trust. We are asked to lean entirely on God rather than relying on our limited perspective.
So, how do we build this kind of trust?
First, we have to recognize that life is better together. Let us grow in faith as a family and as a community. When you are walking a dark trail, it helps to have fellow travelers alongside you. Share your burdens with your spouse, pray with your children, and lean on your church community. We are not meant to wander through the wilderness alone.
Second, we need to release our grip on the things we cannot control. Don't just worry. Worship. Don't just panic. Pray. Don't just seek control. Seek the Kingdom. When you wake up anxious about tomorrow, consciously hand that anxiety over to the God who already holds tomorrow in His hands.
Today, I challenge you to take a bold step of faith. You do not need to have all the answers. You simply need to trust the Guide.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank You for guiding us, even when we cannot see the way ahead. Help us to trust You more deeply, surrendering our worries and choosing Your path. Strengthen our families and unite us as we follow You together. In Jesus' name, amen.
