SURRENDER TO TRANSFORMATION

“I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” – Galatians 2:20

True salvation is a transformational journey that begins when we die to ourselves and surrender our lives to Christ. It happens when we repent, turning away from our sins and turning to Jesus as both our Savior and Lord. This complete surrender is a pivotal moment in our faith walk, marked by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, who produces the fruit of a Christ-like character in us.

Galatians 2:20 beautifully illustrates this concept: “I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” This verse underscores that when we encounter Jesus, we experience a spiritual death to our old self, and Christ takes residence within us.

In this process, we not only accept Jesus as our Savior, who redeems us from sin, but we also acknowledge Him as our Lord. Accepting Him as Lord means surrendering the throne of our lives to His authority. It involves yielding our will, desires, and ambitions to His divine plan. This surrender is the essence of being “born again” and it marks the beginning of our transformation.

When we genuinely make Jesus both our Savior and Lord, the Holy Spirit takes up residence in our hearts. His presence is marked by the production of spiritual fruit, which is often described in Galatians 5:22-23 as “love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”

These fruits manifest in our lives as evidence of our relationship with Christ. Love enables us to serve and care for others selflessly. Joy and peace provide a deep-seated contentment and tranquility even in difficult circumstances. And gentleness and self-control guide our interactions and responses.

It is crucial to understand that the fruits of the Spirit are not the result of our own efforts but a manifestation of the transformative work of the Holy Spirit within us. When we surrender to Christ as our Lord, we give Him full access to our hearts, allowing Him to cultivate these virtues in us.

True salvation involves a complete surrender of our lives to Christ, acknowledging Him as both our Savior and Lord. This surrender marks the beginning of a transformative journey where the Holy Spirit produces the fruit of a Christ-like character in us. As we live in faith and obedience, we become living testimonies to the love, grace, and power of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
