Good Isn't Good Enough

"Anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God." – John 3:18

There is a common belief that if you are a good person, everything will work out in the end. Be kind. Stay out of trouble. Do your best. That will be enough to get you into heaven. But the Bible says something very different. Good people do not go to heaven. Saved people do.

The difference is massive. You can live a kind and generous life and still miss the one thing that matters most, faith in Jesus. John 3:18 makes it clear. The person who does not believe is already condemned. That is not something that will happen later. It is a present reality.

Revelation paints a sobering picture. Every unsaved person, great or small, will one day stand before Jesus at the great white throne. Not to find out whether they are innocent or guilty. That verdict has already been determined. They will stand there for one reason: to receive their sentence.

The Bible says the books will be opened. Every thought. Every word. Every action. God sees it all. He remembers it all. And one day, it will be reviewed.

You might be thinking, “Why does this matter right now?” Here’s why. If you are relying on your goodness to make things right with God, it will never be enough. Your name being in the book of life is not based on how kind or helpful you have been. It is based on whether or not you have placed your faith in Jesus.

God is not keeping score to see if your good outweighs your bad. He is offering grace to anyone who will receive it. The only way to avoid condemnation is to be covered by the forgiveness of Jesus.

So, stop asking if you are good enough. None of us are. Ask instead, have I trusted Jesus to save me? Have I surrendered my life to Him? That is the only thing that changes your standing before God.

You can walk in peace today knowing your name is written in His book. But if you are not sure, there is no better time than right now to say yes to the One who gave His life to save yours.
