Let Peace Take the Lead

“And let the peace of Christ, to which you were also called in one body, rule your hearts. And be thankful.” - Colossians 3:15

Peace doesn’t usually show up on its own. It’s not something that just drifts into your life without permission. You have to let it in. That’s exactly what Paul is getting at in the verse above when he says, “Let the peace of Christ rule your hearts.”

That word “rule” is powerful. It comes from the Greek word for “umpire.” Think about that. God’s peace is meant to call the shots in your life. Like an umpire in a game who makes the final decisions, God’s peace is supposed to decide what gets your attention and what doesn’t, what thoughts are safe and what thoughts need to go, what battles are worth fighting and which ones you need to walk away from.

But if peace is going to lead, it has to be invited. How do you invite it? It starts with surrender. That daily posture of saying, “God, I trust You more than I trust myself.” When Jesus rules your life, His peace will rule your heart. When His will becomes your priority, His peace becomes your strength.

It also means choosing to trust God’s plan, even when you don’t understand it. And it means choosing peace over pettiness, forgiveness over bitterness, and quiet confidence over anxious control.

Romans 12:18 says, “If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” That means peace is not just something we receive, it’s something we pursue.

If your heart feels unsettled or your thoughts are all over the place, ask yourself: Who’s calling the shots in my life? Is it fear? Anger? Worry? Or is it the peace of Christ?

Let peace be the umpire. Let it make the calls. And trust that Jesus knows exactly how to lead you into a life that is not just calm, but full of the quiet confidence that only He can give.
