A Moment of Awe

"But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God." – Romans 5:8-9

I will never forget the look on my son’s face the first time he met Shaquille O’Neal. On the way to the event, Asher was calm and relaxed. But the moment he turned the corner and saw Shaq in person, everything changed. His eyes widened, his mouth dropped open, and he froze in pure awe.

Now imagine the moment when you meet Jesus face to face.

One day, every person will stand before the Lord. Scripture says that the sea will give up its dead, and death and Hades will give up theirs, and each one will be judged according to their works. It will be a moment of awe beyond anything you or I can grasp today.

But here is why this matters for you right now. If you are trusting in yourself, in your good deeds, or in your own strength, then your works are all you have to stand on. But if you have placed your trust in Jesus, then your works are no longer what define you.

When God looks at someone who belongs to Jesus, He no longer sees a life marked by sin. He sees the blood of His Son. He sees someone who has been justified, forgiven, and saved from wrath. That changes everything about how you live today.

Your works will never save you, but they will reflect your faith. How you live now shows the authenticity of your relationship with Christ. Your choices, your words, your priorities, and your love for others all flow from the grace you have received.

Live today with that moment in mind. Remember that you will stand before Jesus, not trembling in fear, but standing in awe of the One who saved you. Let that shape your decisions. Let that stir you to love and serve. Let that fill you with gratitude.
