There Is More Than This
"But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ." – Philippians 3:20
I once heard a story about two babies, still in the womb, having a conversation. One baby asked the other, “Do you believe in life after birth?” The second baby laughed it off, saying, “Of course not, this is all there is. We live in the dark, we are fed through this cord, and that’s the end of it.”
But the first baby kept wondering, “What if there’s more? What if there is light, and air, and a world we cannot even imagine?” The second baby just shook his head and said, “Why believe that? No one has ever come back to tell us. This is all we have.”
That story is a simple but powerful reminder for us. In the same way those babies could not imagine life after birth, many of us struggle to grasp the reality of life after death. We get so consumed with this world, with its worries and comforts, that eternity feels distant or even unreal.
But Scripture tells us there is more. There is life beyond the grave. For the believer, death is not the end. It is the beginning of something we cannot fully imagine right now. Philippians 3:20 reminds us that our true citizenship is in heaven. We were made for more than just this life.
So, how does that change the way we live today? It gives us perspective. It reminds us to hold loosely to the things of this world. It helps us focus on what truly matters: loving God, loving people, sharing the hope of Jesus, and living with eternity in mind.
When you face hardship, remember this is not the end. When you are tempted to cling to things that will not last, remind yourself of where your real home is. When you feel anxious about the future, trust that God has prepared something far greater than you can see right now.
You were made for more. You were made for eternity. Let that truth shape how you live today. Live knowing this life is just the beginning of the story God is writing for you.
