Where God Dwells

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God” - 1 Corinthians 6:19

If you have a physical body, then God has something to tell you. Scripture says your body is not just a shell or a vehicle to get through life. It’s a temple. That might be something you’ve heard before, but have you ever stopped to think about what that really means?

In Exodus 25, God gave His people detailed instructions to build a sanctuary. He said, “They are to make a sanctuary for me so that I may dwell among them.” That word dwell literally means to tabernacle. God was not just giving architectural plans. He was expressing a desire to be close. To be near. To be with His people in a tangible, powerful way.

Back then, the temple was a sacred space where the presence of God rested. It was the center of worship, the place where His people experienced His glory. And now, Paul says your body has taken the place of that temple. You are the sacred space. You are where God chooses to dwell.

That changes the way we view our bodies. This isn’t about vanity. It’s not about chasing a number on a scale or trying to impress others. It’s about stewardship. If God has chosen to live within you, then how you treat your body matters. It is not yours to neglect, abuse, or ignore. It is His temple.

The next time you make a decision about how you eat, how you move, how you rest, or how you care for yourself, remember this truth. God isn’t distant. He is near. He is with you. And He has chosen your body to be His home. Honor Him with it. Treat it like the sacred place it is.
