Why You Do It Matters

"All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirit" - Proverbs 16:2

When Jesus changes your heart, He does not just adjust your behavior. He rewires your reason. Why do you go to church? Why do you pray or raise your hands in worship? Why do you give, serve, or join a small group? Those are not surface-level questions. They are spiritual ones.

The truth is, most of us can find ways to justify our actions. We can convince ourselves that we are doing the right things, even if we are doing them for the wrong reasons. We can pray just to feel more spiritual. We can give just to ease guilt. We can serve because we want recognition. Proverbs 16:2 makes it clear that even if everything seems right to us, God is looking deeper than appearances. He is weighing motives.

Jesus taught that God is not only interested in what we do but why we do it. That is how Kingdom culture works. The world rewards performance. Heaven rewards purity. Jesus is not impressed by what earns likes or praise. He is moved by quiet obedience that flows from a transformed heart.

If your why is off, your whole walk will feel off. You will do good things, but wonder why it feels empty. You will burn out trying to impress people instead of honoring God. But when your why is right, even the smallest act carries eternal weight.

Today is a good day to let God examine your motives. Not to shame you, but to grow you. Ask Him to strip away anything fake and lead you back to a place where your actions flow from a heart that loves Him. That is where real joy and purpose live.
