Affirming Community

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." - Hebrews 10:24–25

One of the greatest gifts you can give others is helping them discover and live from their identity in Christ. As you've been transformed by understanding who you are in Him, you can now help others experience the same transformation.

The writer of Hebrews emphasizes the importance of intentional community that "spurs one another on toward love and good deeds." This spurring isn't nagging or criticism; it's encouragement that helps people live from their true identity in Christ.

The instruction not to give up meeting together shows that this kind of community doesn't happen accidentally. It requires intentional gathering, consistent investment, and ongoing commitment. Identity-affirming community takes work, but it's worth the effort.

The goal is mutual encouragement. Just as you need others to remind you of your identity in Christ, others need you to speak truth over them when they're struggling to remember who they are. This reciprocal encouragement creates a community where everyone can thrive.

Identify someone in your life who needs encouragement about their identity in Christ. Speak truth over them this week. Also, consider how you can be part of building or strengthening identity-affirming community in your church or small group.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for the community You've placed around me to help me understand my identity in You. Help me to be an encourager who speaks truth about others' identity in Christ. Use me to help build communities where people can discover and live from their true identity in You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
