Trusting The Harvest When The Soil Looks Bare
“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.” - James 5:7
Anyone who has planted a food plot knows how much work it takes—clearing, tilling, and sowing, then waiting while the dirt still looks empty. Many days, you see no change, but you have to believe the seed is busy beneath the surface and pray for God to send the rain.
In this great adventure of following Christ, we often experience long seasons of planting where we see absolutely no visible growth. When the days turn into weeks and the soil of your life still looks bare, it is incredibly easy to become discouraged. We want a fast harvest, but God values deep roots.
The seasoned farmer does not panic when his field is brown. He knows that real faith moves before the miracle, real faith acts before the outcome, real faith obeys before understanding everything. The farmer does his part, and he trusts the Creator of the seed to do the rest. God asks us to have that same steady confidence. He is always working beneath the surface of our lives, even when our human eyes cannot see a single green sprout.
Waiting for the harvest can feel isolating, but you do not have to stand in the empty field by yourself. Life is better together. Let’s grow in faith as a family. Let’s walk where Jesus walked and let His Word transform our lives. God’s Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, let’s walk in it together. Surround yourself with a strong church community that will stand beside you and pray for rain. Bring your hidden doubts and your heavy burdens into the light. Don't continue to hide what Jesus came to heal.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for being the Lord of the harvest. We confess that we often grow impatient and frustrated when we do not see immediate results from our prayers and our faithful efforts. Give us the endurance of a farmer. Help us to trust that You are actively working beneath the surface of our difficult circumstances. In Jesus' name, amen.
