Building Others Up
"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing." - 1 Thessalonians 5:11
Words are powerful tools that can either build up or tear down. As stewards of our speech, we have the opportunity to encourage others, speak truth in love, and offer hope in difficult times. Building others up doesn't mean avoiding difficult conversations but approaching them with love and wisdom. When we use our words to encourage, we participate in God's work of restoration and healing. This creates communities where people feel valued, supported, and empowered to grow. Contentment comes from knowing our words are making a positive difference in others' lives rather than focusing on what others say about us.
The way we speak in everyday moments matters more than we often realize. A kind word, a patient response, or a sincere affirmation can lighten someone's burden and remind them they are not alone. God can use even simple words to strengthen a weary heart, restore confidence, and bring peace to a troubled mind. When we choose gentleness over harshness, we reflect His character to those around us.
Being intentional with our words also means listening well before we speak. Encouragement becomes more meaningful when it comes from a heart that is attentive and compassionate.
