YOU ARE IN CHRIST

“This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus. I am writing to God’s holy people in Ephesus, who are faithful followers of Christ Jesus.” – Ephesians 1:1

If you are a follower of Jesus Christ and you have asked the question, “Who am I?” you should read the book of Ephesians. The book will very quickly answer your question. And that answer is: YOU ARE IN CHRIST.

The very first verse of the first chapter says, “This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus. I am writing to God’s holy people in Ephesus, who are faithful followers of Christ Jesus.”

He reminds us that you’re NOT defined by what you do. You’re defined by whom you belong to.

When I was a teenager, it seemed like every time I’d leave the house, my parents would pull me aside before I’d go and they’d say to me, “Jordan, remember who you belong to!” That was their way of saying, “as you go, as you live, as you make decisions, don’t forget that you represent much more than yourself.”

In that season of life, I represented my family because I was a part of the family. But even more importantly than that, I represented Christ. I was a saved young man, and ultimately, I belonged to Christ.

That’s what Paul was saying in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 when he said, “Don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. So glorify God with your body.”

My friend, your identity is found in the One to whom you belong. Make no mistake about it, it is not about what you do, who you hang out with, or how great you perform. All of those things will change or fade. But God never will. You are His. And that is the answer to the question, “Who am I?”

You are IN CHRIST.
