SEPARATION FROM GOD

June 2, 2023

“And they heard the sound of the Lord walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife had hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, ‘Where are you?’ And he said, ‘I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.’” – Genesis 3:8-10

Sin has a consequence. And you see it plain as day in Genesis 3. What were the consequences? The conversation between God and Adam goes like this…

“And they heard the sound of the Lord walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife had hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, ‘Where are you?’ And he said, ‘I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself,’” (Genesis 3:8-10).

They were hiding from God. The consequence was they were separated from God. That is a big deal. For the first time, mankind was separated from God. And what you need to know is that they weren’t separated because God moved. They were separated because THEY moved. They moved away from God and pursued sin.

Have you found yourself far from God? Have you experienced a season where it seemed like God was a million miles away? Well, guess what? God didn’t move. He didn’t leave you. In fact, He said in Deuteronomy 31:66 that He never would.

Sin has a consequence. That is what sin does… it separates us from God. Was there a time in your life when you felt closer to God than you do right now? If so, what happened? God didn’t move…you did.

If you don’t feel as close to God, it is because of the separation through sin. But God didn’t leave you. He is right there waiting. All you have to do is repent and turn back to Him. He is always ready and willing to forgive you. Sin has consequences.

Are you going to stay separated from God? Or are you going to choose to separate yourself from the sin that has stolen so much from your life?
