WAIT FAITHFULLY

April 11, 2023

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” – Hebrews 10:23

I recently read an article that talked about how we spend our time. The article began by stating that today, the average American lives to be in their upper 70s. And then, while taking that into consideration, it explained how most of us will spend those 70-something years.

The article said you’ll spend over four years in a vehicle waiting to get to your destination. You’ll spend two and a half years cooking and waiting to eat. You spend 25 years sleeping waiting to get up. And you’ll spend over 10 years working waiting to get home.

We all know what it is like to wait. But the question I want to ask today is this: how do we wait FAITHFULLY? Hebrews 10:23 instructs us; “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”

Yesterday, we talked about waiting on the return of Jesus, and that we should wait EAGERLY. I asked if Jesus’ second coming is even something you thought about. In the case of many believers, they don’t give much thought to Jesus’ return.

Sadly, they live their lives as if that return is sometime in the very distant future. But the reality is, we don’t know when Jesus will return. And so, we shouldn’t just wait eagerly, but we should wait faithfully.

When you wait faithfully, remaining obedient to God’s Word and calling on your life, you can feel confident that whenever Jesus returns, you have been faithful to Him.

But what if you haven’t been? What if Jesus returned right now? Would it blindside you? Would you wish you could have that time back? The truth is, none of us know when He is coming. Therefore we should not take a single second for granted.

Wait eagerly for His return. But also wait FAITHFULLY, staying constant in obedience to God’s calling for your life. You will never regret being faithful to God.
