INGREDIENT #2: GROWTH

April 23, 2023

“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.” – 1 Corinthians 3:6

What makes a great team? We are in the middle of looking at exactly what ingredients make up a great team. Whether it is a sports team, a business team, or a church team, we want to know what makes a great team.

Yesterday, we looked at the first ingredient: victory. But we did not discuss just any victory; great teams are victorious on their mission. They set out with a mission, and they accomplish that mission. But in order to accomplish the mission, they need the second ingredient: GROWTH.

Great teams have a great fanbase. And that didn’t happen by accident. Sure, winning and victory attract fans. But they also had to go out and draw those fans in. That is exactly what we should be doing as a church.

The church was designed to grow. Growth is important because as we all know, things that don’t grow eventually die. God didn’t design us to stay among ourselves. He wants us to be reaching out to others, bringing outsiders to the inside.

In 1 Corinthians 3:6 Paul says, “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.”

You can’t make someone come to church, but you can plant the seed. That is all God asks you to do. As you plant the seed, God will take responsibility to make it grow. All He wants is your obedience to plant it.

Great teams are constantly growing their fan bases. And the church should be no different. Constant growth is a sign of a great church team. What are you doing to help grow your team, the church?

Remember, it’s not your job to drag them there. Plant the seed and allow God to grow it!
