IT COSTS YOUR PRIDE

December 31, 2022

“And He gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’’ – James 4:6

Following God is the most rewarding thing you will ever do. It is what you were designed for and created for. God created you for a special purpose, and when you follow God and obediently pursue Him, you will live out the will He designed for you before time began. You will find yourself more satisfied and fulfilled than anything else you could do with your life.

When you follow God, you will seek the rewards, blessings, and honors that come with obedience. But it will also come at a cost. That is right, there is no blessing without the cost. What is the cost of following Jesus? Well, it will cost you, your time. It will cost you, your body…

And it will also cost you your pride. When you follow God, you are giving up the right to call the shots. It is no longer you who is in control, but He is. As you gain more wisdom, you will begin to learn you were never in control to begin with. Everything that happens, God either orchestrated or allowed.

But this takes the praise from you and puts it on Him. When you follow Jesus, your job is to point others to Him. “Being different” will gain attention. But that attention isn’t for your own personal gain; it is for God’s glory. That is the humility Christ has called all of us to walk in.
James 4:6 says, “And He gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’’

This means that when you are proud or arrogant, God opposes you. He is against you. He will humble the proud. He always does. But when you walk in humility, God will bless you. But are you prepared to walk with humility?

If you want to follow Christ and obey Him, He will undoubtedly reward you. But it will cost you. It will cost you your time. It will cost you your body. And it will cost you your pride. Now…are you ready to follow Christ?
