PRIDE BEFORE DESTRUCTION

August 13, 2023

“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” – Proverbs 16:18
Pride is a deceptive and dangerous trait that often leads to destruction. Today’s key Scripture warns us that pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit precedes a fall. When we allow pride to take hold of our hearts, we become vulnerable to its destructive consequences.

Pride blinds us to our own weaknesses and limitations. It fuels a false sense of self-sufficiency and an inflated view of our abilities. We begin to rely on ourselves rather than on God, believing that we can navigate life independently. However, this path of self-reliance and arrogance only leads to our downfall.

The destructive power of pride is evident throughout history and even in our own lives. Prideful individuals often alienate themselves from others, damaging relationships and causing pain. It hinders our ability to empathize, forgive, and extend grace to others. Pride isolates us, preventing genuine connection and hindering the growth of meaningful relationships.

Furthermore, pride hampers our spiritual growth and hinders our relationship with God. When we exalt ourselves above Him, we close ourselves off to His guidance, wisdom, and correction. We miss out on the transformative work of His Spirit in our lives. Pride keeps us in a state of self-righteousness, preventing us from fully surrendering to God and experiencing His abundant grace.

To avoid the destructive path of pride, we must cultivate humility. Humility recognizes our dependence on God and acknowledges that every good thing in our lives is a result of His grace. It allows us to acknowledge our weaknesses and surrender our lives to His guidance and purpose.

True humility is not self-deprecation but a posture of surrender and reverence towards God. It is an acknowledgment that we are creatures in need of a Savior, and it opens the door to receiving His forgiveness, love, and transformation. When we embrace humility, we find the strength to resist pride’s allure and walk in the wisdom and grace of God.

Examine your heart and ask God to reveal any areas of pride that may be present. Whatever the Lord reveals to you, I encourage you to humbly seek His forgiveness and guidance, surrendering your life to Him. As we cultivate humility, we open ourselves to the blessings of genuine relationships, spiritual growth, and a deepened intimacy with God.
